If you want to see more events and gatherings, networking opportunities, and a deeper connection to the University of Illinois, please consider lending your time and expertise as a Club Leader or at-large volunteer.

Volunteer roles are available to fit with your preferred level of engagement and time commitments! See below for descriptions of our Club Leadership, committee, and volunteer-at-large structure and engagement opportunities. 
 

Leadership Roles - Board of Leaders
 

President

  • Supervises all alumni club affairs and oversees strategic direction of the club
  • Establishes short- and long-term goals
  • Organizes and runs board meetings
  • Serves as primary liaison to the alumni association
  • Responsible for communicating crucial and relevant information provided by UIAA
  • Provides recognition for the positive efforts and contributions of fellow board members and holds them accountable for duties otherwise.

Vice President

  • Performs the duties of the president when the current president is absent from meetings and events
  • Assists with other board responsibilities, and assumes responsibilities when a position is unexpectedly vacated
  • Assist the alumni club president with succession planning and volunteer recruitment
  • Vice president serves as the club’s president-elect

Secretary & Treasurer

  • Responsible for the recording and reporting of the club’s board meeting minutes to the volunteer board and the UIAA Director of Alumni Clubs
  • Responsible for submitting any post-event documentation, including attendance reporting and reimbursement requests (when applicable)
  • Creates and maintains bank account ledger for club (when applicable)
  • Provides financial report updates at club board meetings
  • Works with club president on budgets for alumni club events and initiatives
  • Files annual tax form with IRS (990-N) when applicable
  • Maintains income and expenditures related to club’s scholarship fundraising efforts (when applicable)

Communications Director

  • Oversees creation and content for club’s social media accounts
  • Responsible for managing alumni club’s Alumni Magnet node/website with responsibilities included by not limited to uploading event registration information, sending event promotion e-mails, and club newsletter.
  • Ensure that club is using proper branding resources in web presence and marketing efforts
  • Responds to e-mails sent to club’s official e-mail account
  • Oversees any print marketing undertaken by alumni club
  • Work with Events Chair to create marketing and promotional materials for club events

Events Director

  • Oversees planning and execution of club events and serves as primary point of contact
  • Oversees event registrations and/or ticket purchases for ticket-required events
  • Responsible for welcoming alumni guests and tracking attendance 
  • Responsible for arriving early to set-up decorations and swag items for alumni guests
  • Responsible for working with venues on food or drink discounts for Illini guests
  • Responsible for recruiting and managing subcommittee “captains” to assist in execution of events.
  • Oversees event raffles (when applicable)

Membership Engagement Director

  • Oversees new member efforts, including coordination and execution of Welcome Initiatives, new member outreach
  • Works with UIAA to obtain local alumni data and analyze opportunities for outreach
  • Works with club’s communications chair on e-mail and social media campaigns related to new member recruitment and outreach
  • Assists in planning and execution of engagement opportunities for affinity groups within membership base
     

Committee & At-Large Volunteer Roles
 

Committees & Committee Captains – Committees and Committee Captains provide additional support to Board of Leaders in planning and execution of area-specific programming. At-Large Volunteers can support any committee which aligns with their interests, availiability, or talents. Recommended Committees include:
 

  • Events Committee: assists in planning and execution of a diverse calendar of events
    • Gameday Captain – athletics, watch parties
    • Community Engagement Captain – community service, arts & culture events
    • Professional Engagement Captain – networking and lifelong learning events
    • Young Alumni Engagement Captain – young alumni-specific programming
       
  • Communications Committee: assists in the creation and execution of communication pieces from the club, including web content, social media channels, email promotions, and club newsletter.
     
  • Welcome Committee: responsible for new member outreach and greets new guests at events
     
  • Nashville Network Committee: helps build connections between the Nashville Illini Club and other clubs, groups, or organizations across the Nashville area, such as other BIG10 clubs, service organizations, or local businesses.
